Excerpt turns what you hear in an audiobook into highlights that you can read, search, and export. Tap the highlighter and the last 30 seconds you heard are transcribed into text on your device. If you link the ebook of the same book, your highlights use the author’s exact words instead of a transcription.
- Bring your own books: Excerpt imports m4b, mp3, and most other audio files, ZIPs of chapter tracks, free LibriVox books, BorrowBox library loans, and books from your Audiobookshelf server. Audible downloads and most Libby loans stay locked to their own apps.
- Free to use: there is no limit on the number of books, highlights, or exports. Premium adds Whisper transcription, ebook matching for every book, and AI clean-up of the transcripts.
- No account: there is nothing to sign in to, and your library syncs through your own iCloud.
- Works with your tools: highlights can be sent to Readwise or exported as Markdown for Obsidian, and Excerpt can be automated with Shortcuts actions and deep links, or connected to your Audiobookshelf server.
